Come Celebrate National Caribbean American Heritage Month

Introduction:

Calling all Caribbean Americans! Grab your flag and represent National Caribbean American Heritage Month. From Anguilla and Antigua to Barbados to the U.S. Virgin Islands, we recognize and commemorate the rich culture and generations of contributions of Caribbean Americans.

Who better to celebrate this particular month than Skai Blue Media’s very own Account Coordinator and Bajan-American, Danielle King! We hope with this interview, you’ll enjoy getting to know a member of our Crew while learning more about the tremendous contributions of Caribbean Americans to the nation and the world.

Interview:

Tell us a bit about your background and which Caribbean Island you represent!

Hi! I am Danielle “Dani” King, an Account Coordinator at Skai Blue Media. I am a proud 1st generation Caribbean-American. I represent Barbados, W.I. Barbados is a small island located in the eastern part of the Caribbean, home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

What are some values that you were raised in that you can parallel with the values of Skai Blue Media?

At SBM, authenticity and making a meaningful difference are key aspects of #Whatwedo. Growing up, I was always told to be proud of where I come from and who I came from. It’s rewarding to be at SBM, where my core morals are aligned with company values, and I feel a genuine sense of belonging.

What are some things you would like people to know about Barbados?

As a Bajan (we prefer this term over Barbadians), there have been strides politically and educationally that I can’t help but be proud of!
Last December, the world watched as Barbados established itself as a republic and removed Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state.
Barbados has a free educational system with a literacy rate of 97%, and that commitment to the people is impressive.

Closing:

There are countless stories to be told about the Caribbean-American experience, and we thank Danielle for sharing hers. We look forward to creating more conversations like this and learning more about each other along the way. Be emboldened about your storytelling journey – it’s gotten you to where you are today!
